Agitation technology for large storage and oil tanks
Side-entry mixers
PREMA-SERVICE side-entry tank mixers are designed for efficient agitation and homogenisation in large storage and oil tanks. They are mainly used in the chemical and petrochemical industries, in refineries, and in wastewater treatment. As robust tank agitators, they are particularly suitable for large tanks with diameters of up to 120 m.
Their functions include the effective mixing of liquid tank contents, the targeted removal of sediment deposits and the maintenance of a constant temperature within the tank (power range 5–55 kW).
All models of our agitators are designed as part of a modular system to ensure the greatest possible interchangeability of spare parts. This enables rapid repairs or the retrofitting of additional components. Maintenance is straightforward and designed for extended intervals. The special design results in an extremely compact build, thereby exerting very little torque on the tank wall; consequently, neither bracing nor supports are required.

Our tank agitators are available in various versions:
- Fixed version (F, fixed-type) for homogenising/blending refinery products and chemical products
- Swivel-type (S) for preventing sediment build-up in crude oil or in storage tanks, and for blending different crude oil products
- High-temperature version (HT), suitable for use up to 220°C (428°F, 493.15 K), e.g. for bitumen
- Version with double mechanical seal (for all F, S and HT mixers)
- Custom sizes and special mixers available
All mixers are also available with ATEX marking EX X II 2G EEx c, k, d T4 in accordance with the Explosion Protection Directive 2014/34/EC (Zone 1).

Sealing technology for safe agitator operation
Mechanical seal
The tried-and-tested, durable mechanical seal used in our tank agitators is fitted at the rear end of the shaft. This enables us to ensure maximum protection for the entire system, as well as ease of replacement and repair. The mechanical seal is available in several variants and is selected according to the product.

All Prema-Service tank agitators are fitted with optimised marine high-flow propellers, which offer the following advantages:

Early-warning systems for safe agitator operation
Surveillance equipment
In order to detect operational problems at an early stage (e.g. damage to the propeller caused by foreign objects in the tank), continuous monitoring of the key parameters is recommended. Relevant parameters include the vibration of the agitator assembly, leakage from the mechanical seal and the temperature of the gearbox.
Monitoring can be carried out using both portable measuring devices and permanently installed monitoring systems, although only permanently installed systems can ensure that any necessary intervention takes place in good time. These systems also offer the possibility of automating safety measures.
We offer the following systems for this purpose:
- Vibration monitoring
- Gearbox temperature monitoring
- Leakage monitoring (visual and electrical) for mechanical seals
The measuring systems are permanently attached to the agitator and consist of a sensor, a terminal box and the associated cabling. The associated control cabinet with measurement data analysis is also available as a complete solution. All components are also available for Ex Zone 1.

Automatic swivelling (S version)
Various versions of the automatic swivel mechanism are available, ranging from a simple, continuously operating swivel mechanism to a PLC-controlled swivel mechanism with position detection and programme control.

- Automatic electric swivelling with position monitoring (S; swivel type)
