Portable & hire flares

PREMA-SERVICE offers mobile and temporary flare systems for maintenance work, plant shutdowns, tank degassing and emergency situations. Depending on the application, mobile high-pressure flares are available for purchase, whilst flare systems and combustion chambers are available for hire.

To meet temporary requirements, PREMA-SERVICE has had its own portable flare systems and combustion chambers since 1998, which can be hired complete with personnel and all necessary accessories. Typical applications for our systems include

  • degassing of storage tanks before and during tank cleaning
  • Degassing of pipelines following damage or prior to repair
  • As a temporary replacement whilst VRU/exhaust gas recovery systems are out of service
  • As a temporary replacement whilst high-level flares are being overhauled

Mobile hire flare systems can be adapted for gases in explosion groups IIA, IIB and IIC. Where required, rotary lobe blowers are provided, which can also handle extraction over long pipe runs of up to 200 metres. Through the use of special flame arresters and a combination of other components, our customers’ systems are reliably protected against damage caused by the extraction and combustion of the gases.

Among other things, light to medium-density gases from products such as ammonia, petrol, benzene, hydrocyanic acid, sewage gas, propylene and crude oil can be safely combusted. Even contaminated residual gases, whose concentration lies below the ignition limit, can be safely and with low emissions by special burner designs. The necessary quantities of support gas are minimised by electronic controls.

Mobile flare systems are available in various sizes, including as small and cost-effective containerised flares. The container flare takes up very little space and is therefore particularly suitable for plants or areas with narrow access routes. Furthermore, it is a self-contained flare system that uses a hydraulic mechanism to raise itself into position, meaning that no crane is required for installation.

Mobile container flares

  • Application: Degassing of small petrol and oil tanks or pipelines
  • Advantages: Compact design; can be installed even where access routes are narrow
  • up to1,200Nm³/h

Standard portable flares

  • Capacity: available in various sizes, up to 7,500 Nm³/h.
  • Application: Degassing of petrol and crude oil tanks or pipelines, shutdowns.
  • Application example: Shutdown of a vapour recovery unit, with a mobile flare equipped with 3 blowers as a replacement. Unrestricted loading operations for tank wagons, tank lorries or tankers are possible.
  • up to7.000 Nm³/h

Mobile emergency flares / high-output flares

  • Application: To replace stationary flares, e.g. during an overhaul or maintenance, so that no plant shutdown is required.
  • up to30.000Nm³/h

Mobile high-pressure flare systems

Mobile flare systems are mounted on a vehicle or trailer, enabling a complete, operational and self-contained flare system to be rapidly deployed to even hard-to-reach sites. Such systems are necessary, for example, to enable gas from high-pressure pipelines (e.g. ethylene or other hydrocarbons) to be burned quickly and safely in the event of an incident.

A typical system comprises a tracked vehicle with a hydraulically operated support structure, which is extended at the site of operation and onto which a suitable flare head is mounted. The system includes a pressure-reducing station capable of handling pressures up to 100 bar, as well as all ignition and monitoring equipment.

No connection to electricity, compressed air or steam is required. Special flare heads enable largely smoke-free combustion of substances such as ethylene.
