PREMA-SERVICE designs and installs stationary flare systems, including the necessary safety, ignition and control systems. Each system is individually tailored to the specific process, operational and site requirements.

PREMA-SERVICE’s stationary flare systems have been in reliable use worldwide for decades, meeting the highest safety standards. Whether for oil production, refining, the chemical industry, steelworks or energy supply – we design, build and supply stationary flare systems of all sizes, to meet all requirements and specifications, as self-supporting structures, guyed structures or lattice masts up to 175 metres in height.

Depending on the contract, we assume full project responsibility and hand over the flare system to you, complete with all components and equipment, as a turnkey project, or supply only individual system components such as flare heads and ignition systems. Our experts remain at your disposal even after commissioning.

Standard flares

Flare systems fitted with standard RE-type flare heads are used either when smoke-free combustion is not required or when the gas to be flared burns without producing smoke.

High-temperature-resistant steels, flame stabilisers and a special windshield ensure a stable flame across the entire operating range of the flare system and a long, maintenance-free service life.

The special design of the flame stabilisers ensures good gas-air mixing and low velocities at the pilot burners, thereby guaranteeing reliable ignition; purely electrical ignition via ignition rods is also possible. A built-in, maintenance-free (multi-stage where applicable) seal reduces purge gas consumption.

Ground flares

For applications where the use of a high-rise flare is not possible, or where smoke-free combustion with high combustion efficiency or a non-visible flame is required, PREMA-SERVICE offers ground-level flare systems.

In these systems, a multi-stage burner is completely enclosed within a thermally and acoustically insulated combustion chamber. This solution offers many advantages:

  • No thermal radiation outside the system
  • Low noise levels
  • No visible emissions
  • Wide control/turn-down range
  • Critical components easily accessible

Smokeless flares

PREMA-SERVICE’s steam-assisted flares are used when heavy gases need to be burnt without producing smoke and medium- or high-pressure steam is available. Various types of flare heads with steam injection into the flame, both internally and externally, are available and are designed to suit the specific application. Our specialised design offers low steam consumption, low thermal radiation, reduced noise levels and a long service life.

If steam is not available in sufficient quantities or its use is not economically viable, smoke-free combustion of heavy gases can also be achieved using air-assisted flare heads. Air-assisted flares use blowers to generate additional combustion air, which is fed directly into the gas stream within the flare head, thereby achieving smoke-free combustion with a long service life.

For specialised applications (e.g. retrofitting existing flares to a smoke-free design), specialised air-assisted flare heads are available, enabling retrofitting with minimal downtime and low investment costs.

Low calorific values

Gases with low calorific values are produced primarily in steelworks. For such gases, PREMA-SERVICE offers RE-N type flare heads, which enable safe combustion without the need for an additional support gas.

Thanks to their special design, purely electric ignition is also possible here, meaning that pilot burners are not required.

PREMA-SERVICE flare heads for low calorific values are characterised by a wide operating range, high flame stability, reliable ignition, low noise levels and a very long service life.

Steel construction

There are several steel structures to choose from for high flares:

In the case of a guyed high-rise flare, the flare pipe is held in position by cables. This design is cost-effective but requires additional foundations and anchors for the cables and takes up a considerable amount of space.

In the self-supporting design, the flare pipe is constructed to be so stable that bracing or other supports are not necessary. A combined structure comprising several flares or flare pipes is also possible.

In the case of large flares, a lattice mast supports one or more flare tubes, which are mounted in the centre of the lattice mast or on one side. Special designs allow such a flare system to be lowered and maintained even without a crane.

Depending on the application and design, flare systems may require additional process-specific components and equipment, such as

  • Gas pressure reduction station for pilot burners
  • Devices to reduce purge gas consumption (molecular seal, velocity seal)
  • Solid and liquid separators (knock-out drum)
  • Seal pot 
  • Aircraft warning lights (ACWL)
  • Trace heating systems (electric or steam-powered)
  • Blowers and compressors
  • Pumps

All components are available either as part of a complete system or as spare parts.
